City Command Center

Introduction Making Way For Cybercities

>> continue.
Today we have the means to achieve this through the  City Command Center. This is the nucleus that will implement and spearhead the overwhelming changes in the way a city is designed, built and managed.

With this new seamless functioning, the cybercity becomes a world-class working and living destination, fulfilling the objectives envisioned for the Multimedia Super Corridor. It will be brought to life using key elements such as high-bandwidth telecommunications infrastructure, advanced multimedia technologies and the Internet. The  City Command Center will synergise the efficient management of the cybercity via advanced traffic management, integrated monitoring and control of utilities services. Web-based virtual community services and a comprehensive management information system for the municipal. Ultimately, the  City Command Center integrates the once disparate elements of a city and links them to an intelligent nucleus that re-writes the standards of the way we live.

Advanced Traffic Management - Ensuring Free Flowing Traffic For Commuters

>> continue.
The  City Command Center will coordinate traffic flow through an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) to keep traffic moving smoothly, especially in cases of road works and congestion. The network of roads will be constantly monitored using CCTVs and sensors. With the information gathered, emergency responses like the immediate dispatch of towing services to clear obstructions can be made possible.

Also in place will be the Geographical Information System (GIS) to provide and accurate and the most up to date digital map of the city. The GIS will show commuters their options in public transport in getting to their destinations easily and without wasting time. Even first time visitors to the city will find it a simple matter reaching places of interest.

Traffic management will also be enhanced with the Global positioning System (GPS), which will be able to track buses and provide timely information to commuters at bus stops. And available via the web will be realtime information such as bus schedules, as well as which areas of the city are congested at any one point in time. Other vehicles that may be tracked include trucks carrying waste or hazardous materials and fuel tankers, creating an extra measure of control and security in traffic management.

Travel related information, warnings of obstructions and road works ahead can all be collected by the GIS to reach the road user via variable messaging signs, bus stop signs and variable speed limit signs.

Integrated Utilities Management - Making Possible Maximum Usage With
Minimum Outage

>> continue.
With electronic banking and eventually with the introduction of electronic government, bills will be paid through the transfer of funds via computer, without ever stepping into the bank itself, the utility company or the payment centers. Besides the convenience and hours saved for consumers, the cybercity benefits from reduced traffic on the roads and lower emission levels from vehicles.

The range of services available to consumers will also be enhanced with the  City Command Center. As an example, consumers may call in just once and guided by an Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), be directed to the specific service needed. This call may be made from the home, the office or public kiosks and is routed via the web. This form of web enabled customer information is speedy and can be customized, saving time for both the consumer and the utility company.

The utility companies in turn may use the  City Command Center to register and list their approved sub contractors who may be dispatched to attend to service outages. In addition, information on utilities laid in common ducting are stored online in a GIS database - in the rare event that modifications are called for, locating the subterranean ducting is simple and neatly executed on the ground.

The  City Command Center uses Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and telemetry to allow billing, fault reporting, maintenance and monitoring of all services to be effectively coordinated and managed to minimize outages for the utility companies.

Interactive Community Services - Making Life More Rewarding

>> continue.
Via high bandwidth Intranet from homes and offices, residents and the business community may go through the Internet to access a comprehensive range of community services, which may in turn encourage the setting up of more businesses in the cybercity. This range of information and the ease with which it is accessed, adds a new dimension of convenience and freedom to life.

Homes equipped with security and intelligent features, together with business functioning under an intelligent building system, can be linked to the City Command Center for central monitoring. The extended benefits include a quick response to problems as they occur - like fires, unlocked doors and security breaches. Maintenance needs are also quickly identified for rectification or regular service by approved contractors. Energy management is of course a standard procedure under the City Command Center system.
